For your viewing pleasure...

I added some pictures for you all to see since we've been slacking on the posts. I promise when things slow down (ha!) we'll update again! :)

Howdy!

Put me in coach. I'm ready to play!!

Tough day at Miss Robin's.

It's not just wine. He loves beer too. :)

Standing on my own two feet, sort of.

Five months old today!

Carrots, yum! And I totally dig my new highchair.

Moving around

Jack is quickly learning to live a life of independent mobility. Miss Robin said, "He'll be sitting up in 2 weeks and crawling by 6 months."  Ben's reaction went from, "Awesome!" to "Oh no!" It is only fitting that we would have a busy-body of a little boy.

We've been enjoying the short amount of time we have to spend with him since we are both working full time. The 3-4 hours we have with him at night are pretty amazing. He laughs and plays and talks our ears off.  It's the best 3 hours of my whole day.

We have also moved on to rice cereal and oatmeal. We gave avocado a chance tonight! Here's a little video.

Back to Reality

Well, Jack has started going to daycare with Miss Robin while Ben and I returned to work. He started last Monday, and much to my surprise, I had a really hard time with it. Ben didn't return to work until Wednesday, but Miss Robin wanted Jack to start on Monday in order to start getting him on a schedule. Ben wanted to go along to drop off Jack for his first day. I secretly thought he was being a bit dramatic, but kept my opinions to myself. On that fateful day, I turned him over to Miss Robin, Ben in tow, and the tears came like a flood. I was comforted with a loving hug from my husband. Turns out, he didn't want to come for Jack, he anticipated my struggle. I'm a lucky wife.

Later that day I got an email from Jack via Miss Robin. It read:

Hello Mama,
I am doing great...I am having fun and I am being a very good boy, I haven't cried at all. Miss Robin and the gang are taking very good care of me. Those furry things with the wet tongue kissed me and it makes me laugh. The big kiddos are nice to watch even though they move about so fast...I don't know which one to watch first. I had my bottle and now I am napping in the front room. I miss you and Dad ...but don't worry I am fine. Have a great day at work.
Your Son,
Baby Jack

It helped make it through the second half of my day. When I picked him up after school he was happy and comfortable and clearly well taken care of. Tuesday was MUCH easier, thanks to Miss Robin. :)

First 'meal'

We attempted to feed Jack some rice cereal before bed the other night. Here are the messy results.

Jack's new trick

Jack has started rolling around!  It's been fun to watch him become a little more mobile, but he's already woken himself up from a few naps and a night's sleep because he freaks himself out in his new position.  We'll slowly get adjusted to this.  In the meantime, we'll enjoy the little milestone.  Enjoy the video.

Road trip!

Yesterday we took Jack on a little road trip up to Jerome.  It seemed fitting, since that was the first road trip Angie and I ever took together.  We loaded up the cars, and with Aunt Emily, Uncle Paul, Grandma & Grandpa Shellum and Uncle Dan in tow, we headed to an elevation of 5,200 feet.
Jack did wonderfully on the drive.  He slept a great deal of the way, then woke up to tell us all about his dreams.  We got into town, and spent the afternoon wandering the colorful streets and shops of the old mining town.
Jerome has an interesting history and culture.  The town is filled with bikers, artists and hippies who all enjoy the laid back living, 'high' elevation, and the lax drinking laws in town.  The rule goes:  As long as you are on the fifth step in the amphitheater, you can drink in public.  So Jack tried to mix with the locals and slammed a bottle right on the stairs next to them.
We made it back to town in time for a great Mexican dinner, and after such a busy day, Jack was happy to take a bath and get rocked to sleep.
